Personality/Demeanor: Maelen's personality is ever-changeable, much like the phases
of the moon. The aura of mystery hangs about her and can draw even the most cynical person
to her, though she rarely chooses to share her secrets.

Strengths: Maelen's years and familial connections have given her both quite a lot of knowledge and a
sense of having "seen it all". She is often amused by the wonder of not only glish children and young glish, but
mortals and other races as well. In one sense, this makes her rather opinionated--on the other hand, she will
try to help others whenever she can by sharing what she knows.
Weaknesses/Flaws: Given Gealach's close-bonding trait, Maelen's biggest weakness could be considered
the bond she shares with her House members. Second only to Alecksei and her children, every member of Gealach is
considered family to Maelen in some fashion, whether slight or strong. At rare times, she can also be impatient.
Goals: To find all her lost House members and return them to the Gealach fold.

Appearance: Maelen's hair is of the darkest blue--like the night sky before the final fading of dusk
to black. Her eyes are a light green, tempered with a glint of silver, like a cat's. Her skin will glow under full
moonlight and carry a slight glow in all other cases.
Voice: Maelen's speaking voice is a melodic contralto that can either be soft
or commanding. In contrast, her singing voice is powerful, spanning several octaves.

Moon Rising
Maelen was the only child of Anasta, the seventh of Teferi's born children, and Larion, who later joined House
Kione. Growing up when the world was still new and forming, she learned and developed quickly; her parents and
Teferi were her biggest childhood influences. As her childish years waned, a few of the houses were forming but
young Maelen didn't care for any of them. She was a fighter, but not a warrior--so that left out Faileas and Feayr.
She was more temperamental than befit Tuath or Reul-iúil. And out of all those she knew, she felt like she was the
only one who had a deep connection with the Mother's night watcher--the moon. She decided that when she came of
age, she would form her own House.
And so she did. Beneath the first full moon during Maelen's 160th pass, the House of Gealach was born.
Thrown into the life of the Court, she made fast friends with Helaine Réalta, and to a slightly lesser extent,
Devinne Tiórail and Violannt Feayr. But her closest friendship was with Helaine and it was she who introduced Maelen
to Bakari, a member of House Réalta's Guard. Not looking for love or attachments, Maelen was surprised to soon find
herself in both states. She even considered the possibility that they might someday bond. Until the First Court
War. Gealach survived the War intact but four other Houses--including Réalta--fell. And Bakari with them, in the
final defense of his House. For a long time after the War, Maelen's devastation remained. She led her House and
participated in Court, but kept herself closed to nearly all.
The Retaliation was a major change for Maelen, for it was at a Court meeting petitioning some of the new Houses
that she met the man who would become her soulmate--Alecksei, Lord of Deireadh.
New moon brings change
From the start, Maelen and Alecksei's relationship was not easy. Still grieving for Bakari, she attempted to deny
to herself the bond between them. This infuriated Alecksei, but her resistance did not last for very long. Out of
their union came three children: the twins, Jerdahn and Nikolai, were born during the early Peace. Breinn, their youngest,
was born much later. Their relationship has been tumultuous, and far from boring. Yet despite their differences, their
love grew to be as deep and true as any pair of soulmates could have.
More recently
The Third War has had a far more adverse effect on House Gealach and its Lady than the first two. Held hostage
by the minions of the Diavols for most of it, she was not there to lead her House through it and so it has
fractured--some members being casualties of the war, but many simply disappearing. The whereabouts of her cousin and
Lord, Beocht-Síol, are unknown. Maelen presumes him to be dead, though she cannot be absolutely certain. And with
Alecksei's soul hovering between the realms, it is hard to say how long it may take Maelen to come to terms with all
that has occurred.
